A classic is simply a book that people have not stopped reading. This page gathers classic books and classic novels that readers return to again and again, such as The Catcher in the Rye, One Hundred Years of Solitude, The Old Man and the Sea, A Tale of Two Cities, Frankenstein, The Picture of Dorian Gray, The Little Prince and Alice's Adventures in Wonderland. If you have been meaning to read the best classic books and did not know where to begin, this is a friendly place to start, and you can buy classic books online without fuss.
Many readers are put off classics because they begin with the longest and hardest one. Do the opposite. The Old Man and the Sea, Of Mice and Men and The Little Prince can each be finished in a weekend. A Sherlock Holmes collection lets you read one short case at a time. Once you have finished two or three short classic English novels, the big ones such as A Tale of Two Cities or Pride and Prejudice feel far less heavy.
The same classic is often available as a paperback, a hardbound deluxe edition and sometimes in Hindi or another Indian language. Paperbacks are best for reading on the move. Deluxe hardbound editions look handsome on a shelf and make fine gifts. Check the binding and language on the book page before you add it to your cart. For modern novels, go to Fiction.
